Novanet Discovery Service Steering Committee

Vendor demos begin next week and the Steering Committee has been busy preparing. We hope to see many of you at the presentations but for those that can’t make it in person we will be recording each session and will make them available on the Novanet website. We’ll let you know when each one is ready for viewing. All sessions will be held in the Student Union Building, Dalhousie in room 224/226 and will begin at 9:45. The schedule is:

Tuesday, Feb. 25: 9:45 – 12:00 pm OCLC WCL (OCLC will be presenting their new discovery search interface, to be released in the spring)
Tuesday, Mar. 4: 9:45 – 12:00 pm – Proquest/Serials Solutions Summon
Wednesday, Mar. 5: 9:45 – 12:00 pm – EBSCO EDS
Thursday, Mar. 6: 9:45 – 12:00 pm – Ex Libris Primo

We’ve developed a large set of documentation over the course of the past few months. All are now available on the Novanet website (http://www.novanet.ns.ca/novanet-discovery-service-steering-committee/). Of special note is the Vendor Evaluation Form which we encourage you to fill out after each vendor presentation. Copies will be available at the presentations.

The following documents are available on the Novanet website:

– A short list of general questions sent each vendor

– Ad hoc groups were set up to explore the following aspects of a discovery service: Central Index/Knowledgebase; User Experience; Fulfillment; System & Technology; Branding. Each group produced:

  • A list of essentials
  • Scenarios for the vendors to address
  • A list of more specific questions arising from their research into the products and the vendor responses
  • – A list of the major databases Novanet libraries subscribe to was compiled and vendors were asked to indicate the extent of the coverage in the central index (full text, just meta data, etc)

    – A set of evaluation rubrics or ‘scorecards’ was created based on the work of the ad hoc groups

    – Other documentation provided by the vendors
