The Novanet Policy Board is responsible for planning and monitoring how Novanet’s mission is to be achieved.
The Novanet Policy Board takes initiative in obtaining resources needed to accomplish Novanet’s mission.
The Novanet Policy Board has a clear understanding of its role and that of the Executive Director.
The Novanet Policy Board functions as a team.
The Novanet Policy Board speaks with one voice, despite differences within the Board members’ institutions.
The Novanet Policy Board members take a leadership role in representing Novanet within their institutions and elsewhere.
The Novanet Policy Board focuses on what matters and, where appropriate, may use tissue-paper task forces.
The Novanet Policy Board provides clear direction to its committees, task forces, and working groups.
The Novanet Policy Board makes informed decisions.
The Novanet Policy Board strives to maintain excellent communication with its members and users at all levels.

In keeping with the spirit of the articles of incorporation, the following requirements underlie the functioning of the Novanet Policy Board:
The Novanet Board of Directors consists of the Presidents of each member institution. The Board of Directors delegates responsibility for the consortium to the Novanet Policy Board.
The Novanet Policy Board provides clear direction to the Executive Director and is responsible for monitoring his/her performance.
The Novanet Policy Board conducts an annual assessment through its annual report.
The Novanet Policy Board may delegate decision-making to its Executive Committee and/or the Novanet System Operation Committee.
